Freakzone immediately settled into their own unique style of rock influenced by the Seattle grunge explosion
of the early nineties with roots firmly planted in classic British rock. Early sets included covers of Burn from Deep Purple's album of the same name from 1974 and Sweet Leaf by Black Sabbath.
This Freakzone line up went straight into the studio to record a track for the Coalition Compilation being put together by the local council owned studio 'Bandwagon' to showcase a variety of local original bands.
The new band were prolific in their songwriting and soon arrived at the FM revolver studio in Wolverhampton to record the 'Obsession' demo which featured 2 new tracks.
The tracks were Strange Obsession and the mighty Don't Tell Me which almost secured the band a deal
with Noise records in 1994 ....but thats another story.
There are many other rehearsal recordings from this period which were only a reference for the band recorded live on a 2-track cassette in rehearsal as they wrote the songs but the following can now be found at Dean's 'Steamhead' site:
Dean had to leave the band in 1994 and was replaced by Graham Thompson, previously singer in another local band.
Gray fitted in quickly and the band were soon recording new material on a 4-track in rehearsal alongside existing songs:
Gray lasted about a year before being replaced by Marcus Warren, around the same time Rich Asford was replaced by Tim Wilkins on guitar. The band spent time writing new material and refined the sound further, recording a demo of new material on a 4 track in rehearsal which will appear here soon, before heading into the studio to record the 'Self Belief' Demo which would mark the final studio recording for Freakzone. It featured 3 brand new songs:
The band then continued writing material, some of which was recorded in rehearsal and which will appear here in the near future and with renewed record company interest all looked good for the future until over work and unexpected family illness eventually caused the band to break up in 1997. Rob and Al went onto form The Adhesive Experience in early 1998.
Hope you enjoy the Freakzone material.
